Just got a letter from Randall that My 2-8 scheduled to ship in August is now scheduled for a November delivery date. Have a 1-8 ordered as well and it was scheduled spring of 2010 ,guess that will be delayed too. I have a 14,mini14,27 with 25 handle and a 10-3. Had a 2-8 i swore I would never sell but times got tough and this is the replacement for that sold one , also have had a 1-7 a 18-7.5 and a 24 all where sold during tough times. Hope I don't have the same tough times again although the economy is terrible right now.

Yes, the "58-month wait" is a figment of somebody's imagination. The real wait is 61-63 months, depending on the model. This is common enough knowledge any more that I don't know why they don't just cut the BS and tell it like it is.

Well, at least you'll probably have a nice Christmas present there. :) Post a pic when it arrives!

The shop has been running 12 weeks or so behind schedule for a year or two now. A knife for one of my son's high school graduation was to be ready last June, and it finally arrived in October. I received ample notification of the delay. He already waited nearly four years, so I saw no harm in waiting another couple months.

Here is the knife:

A real beauty (aren't they all?).

I was talking with Chris Stanaback about the delays a couple weeks ago, and told him that, if patience is a virtue, there must be a special place in Heaven reserved for Randall owners. He got a laugh out of that, but it's true.

The way I see it, ordering a fine cutting instrument from Randall Made Knives puts all other forms of waiting into better perspective.

It's funny, the newspaper here had a story a while back about a local whiskey distillery that just opened up. The owners kept going on and on about how horrible the two-year wait for the whiskey to age was.

I just about choked I was laughing so hard.

Yes, I got my #16 (green micarta border patrol handle, nickle silver #1 style hilt) in March '09 instead of Nov '08. It was well worth waiting for. Actually, I only had to wait 2 years since I got it from a dealer (Greg Gutcher).

Gone are the days when you could call the shop and ask them to describe what knives they had in the display case in the sales area, pick one out, and have them ship it to you. I bought a few that way. I also bought two knives at the shop the day I visited the museum.

Greg is a great guy. Between the fire and his health problems, he's sure had enough on his plate lately, though.

We can "blame" the uptick in demand for knives on the Internet - it never used to be like this before the net got so popular. Of course, most knives weren't selling for two and three times what we paid for them, either, so it's a mixed bag.

Bruce, 1998? Sheesh. You're one of the original bastids. I'm impressed.

You guys rock! Yes Jeff, 'ol Bastid Bruce is, like you, very much the real deal! Ken, if I can ever help reduce your wait time...well, you know ;)

Funny thing is, most of us early 99er's got reset to 01/2001 when the SW change-over took place, but the late '98 buggers slipped though...figger that one eh? ;)

Shel

(after 50% of my time in the last three months spent 'on the road', I just felt a need to post sumpin' here...lol)
