The good news is we got a shipment from shop 2. Bad news is this is the second shipment they sent. First shipment has not arrived. It could be lost. The serial numbers on these knives start with the second lot made. This worries me. I'd hate to lose the chandan handles.
Evaluation of shop 2 khukuris. First obvious item -- my flat plate buttcap got canned. I am going to have to argue with the kamis about this. They want to stick with the traditional style. Second obvious item: The same guy signed all the knives. I can tell the difference between the kamis work so I know the same guy didn't make them all but he is the only one who signed. Could be he is the only fellow in the shop who can write. But they are serialized correctly is seems so he can count, too!
Workmanship is generally good. The blades seem a bit harder and might be a shade better than shop 1. Handles are good. Buttcaps and bolsters are good. Different kamis use a different scroll work on the buttcaps.
Shop 2 sarkis' scabbards are not as consistent in quality as shop 1. Some are very good, some could use improvemtent.
Here's what we got:
BAS
15"AKs
20"AKs (about 21 inches & 3 pounds this time)
20"Sirupatis (make by a kami straight from the village)
All are fifty dollars off regular price. Email me if you have interest in any of the above.
Below is a picture of the shop 2 15" AK so you can take a look at what they have done.
