I've always shipped knives with insurance just in case something happens but in the tragic event something goes awry how can you collect on that insurance you purchased?

Typically you would have some sort of receipt from a manufacturer that shows proof of purchase and value, but what do you do if you have a Busse that is out of production such as a SHBA that you don't have the receipt for and whose market value is substantially more than the original purchase price?

Can any of you trading HOGs or postage transmission conveyance engineers help with an answer? Thanks.

There is a "Collectible" notation on the insurance claim form. You have to show proof of your purchase price or where others have sold that are similar...at least that is what I was told. It took me 6 months from start to finish to get a claim from USPS.

Thanks, so I guess a Paypal invoice to you for funds should be fine? Regarding the proof where others have sold a similar item, is a print out of forum text on prices and/or trade values sufficient?

Wow, six months to get a claim from USPS!!!!???? What steps did you have to go through? Did you have to provide your first born as collateral or proof that your claim was true?

If Cobalt reads this, any chance you can also shed some light on the process and what we can expect?

Yeah. Of course, we're sorta screwed on that trade if they dump both boxes, aren't we, Brian. LOL

The last box I shipped I noticed the USPS had upped the ante on Priority mail shipping.

Is it a couple of bucks higher due to the last rate increase or has my postman just got a heavy thumb?

Dennis, I don't even want to think about something like that happening.

:D

I really just wanted to know since the PO told me that I needed to have an "official" receipt to make any insurance claims.

Rate increase... I noticed that very same thing shipping my last batch of sold knives.

I've been fortunate to not have to file a claim BUT I have been told that you cannot file a claim for 30 days... In which I've quite clearly stated to my courier on the last misplaced package, that until I can file, they'd BETTER keep looking. Sure 'nuff, 2 weeks later, it was returned to the PO, wrong address & the occupants had been away. So lean on the PO (not TOO much, but be firm.) to keep searching while waiting out the 30 days. Amazing what turns up. :)

The last one I shipped (Proto FBM), it was cheaper to use the flat-rate box. You might check that option if your stuff is heavy.

I actually do a quick and dirty weigh of the package and then use the usps.com shipping calculator for an estimate. I've noticed that if the package is under 4 lbs it is better to use a standard priority box, if over 4 lbs usually better to use the flat rate. Then again, usually the insurance costs as much if not more than shipping.

Call me a cheap bastid :D but any money I can save can be put to more INFI.

4 lbs!! Hell man! You can save more on the Flat Rat for less lbs than that.....also on high dollar item 1000+ it is cheaper to register them and insure than priority and insure. More secure...little slower, but overall better!

 maybe on my next trade or sale. Thanks.
