shipping autos

The USPS forbids the shipping of autos to anywhere from anyone. The Trade act that banned autos in 1958 bans sending them accross state lines as merchandise ( which you would be doing), and finally NYS PL bans selling, transfer, possession, etc.....so what you are asking is totally illegal to do. I know people do it everyday, and nothing happens, but feel free to look at the law ( US Title 18 and 15 and NYSPL section 265). The only law which you can aviod breaking is the USPS by using UPS instead, however if you are paid by a USPS money order and or the check or money order is mailed then the USPS can still bring charges against you.....here is a link http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/fedswitch.txt and here http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/ny.txt

I inherited some rare autos and books one of which is a collectors guide by Richard V. Langston in which they are listed for several hundred $ each. I don't know what to do with them besides lay them in A box and forget them. Agree

In NY you can get a fishing licnese and then you can legally own them in your house and use them to go to and from the lake. Right now they are not legal even in your house without a fishing/hunting/trapping license. The law is some what vague about selling them to a FFL dealer so that he may offer them for sale to Police. The law allows for the sale of them to police and peace officers, so if you really have no interest you may want to call a few gun shops and see if they have any interest in buying them ( with in NYS). I live in LI and all the Gun stores here sell them. If you don't want them, and feel the need to get rid of them legally this is the best method. You may want to look at another site that is all about this type of knives and see since there are a few NY collector's there if they wish to talk off line to you...try Talkblade.info and see what happens...the law stinks, but it is the law......
