Shipping blades to the UAE

If anyone here does know, I strongly advise them not to say so. Bladeforums will not tolerate discussions of illegal activity. From the FAQ:

Don't do something illegal, or post about illegal activities.
That means no threads about importing switchblades & balisongs to Canada, buying ballistic knives, or similar. No posting of warez, kiddie porn, or CC fraud.

I wouldn't trust 3rd party customs information,
especially since it doesn't list references and it comes from the UK
and its mixed with company regs
(You could try your luck at http://www.customs.ae/).
I would contact the nearest customs office and inquire about the laws,
ask for a permit ...

The US Postal Service disallows the following from being shipped to UAE:

Prohibitions (130)

Aerosol products.

Butane gas lighters and refills.

Firearms, ammunition, and their components.

Gold, jewels, platinum, precious stones, and silver except in insured parcels.

Perishable infectious biological substances.

Perishable noninfectious biological substances.

Polished, whitened, artificial, or imitation pearls.

Pork products.

Printed matter offensive to Arabs and Muslims.

Radioactive materials.

Radio transmitters and receivers except under permit.

Restrictions

Medicines require prior authorization.

Observations

1. Shipments, whose value does not exceed 500 dirhams and parcels that are not commercial and contain personal effects are generally exempt from all customs measures.
2. Shipments that exceed 500 dirhams in value and are commercial shipments must be accompanied by (a) the original invoices authenticated by the Consulates of the UAE; (b) authenticated certificate of origin; (c) list of the contents of the package; and (d) the certificate of exemption from duty, if applicable.

If in doubt of any importational legalities, approach the authority in the country of importation, obtain - in writing, the position of the said authority in relation to the items in question, and notify them of any impending shipments, by way of order details.

You may need to clarify this -
PROHIBITED ITEMS
• Firearms, weapons and ammunition (even decorative items of this nature and toy guns are subject to confiscation)

I do not believe a Folding knife is classified in legislation as a Weapon, I know that in many countries including mine, a switchblade, or auto assisted folding knife IS classified as a prohibited import.

This is the safest advice I can give, and once you develop a reputation with your authorities, you should have a better position with regard to importation.

Thank you very much for all the replies guys! I will look into this and consult the customs office.
