Hey guys. Just looking for some input. I Am looking at purchasing a Buck knife coming out of Canada. Has anybody ever done this? Do you have any ideas what the duty fees to the USA would be?

I have received around 15-20 knives from Canada all without any problems and have never paid any fees. Not sure if that is because of how they were shipped or how the item was declared. They have all been traditional type knives.

I have shipped probably around 100 or more into Canada with only 1 being confiscated. It was a wild looking fantasy knife that was kind of scary looking. I have never heard of anyone using these wild fantasy knives in any type of crime so not sure what they were thinking.

My experience is that it seems to come from Canada faster that what I send into Canada.

Good to know. The retailer was not of much help. They would just say I could get charged duty fees if so brokerage fees from the shipper.

Being from canada and having not only recieved several knives but also have shipped many aswell! Duty fees for americans generally is very little if nothing, unless the knife costs thousands or your dealing in electronics or jewelry or certain other things.

Also Gedlicks the fantasy knife you speak of did it have a hand guard or 3 sided blade? Those are technically illegal here in canada. If none of those then it shouldnt of been seized.

It has been a few years ago since the fantasy knife was seized and I am not sure exactly which one it was but I believe it was a Kit Rae fang of baelin as shown below.

In Canada the postal service does not charge any fees unless postage is due. Some private courier services do charge a brokerage fee in Canada, which can be disputed if it has not been agreed upon in advance by the purchaser. As far as duty goes my understanding of NAFTA is that there is no duty charged on products made in the U.S., Canada and Mexico and to or from these countries. If someone knows different please let me know.
Best way to avoid extra charges is to use the post office.
