Hi all,

I've been lurking for a while but haven't posted much...great informative site.

Anyway, the bad news...I ordered a BM 710 and a Sharpmaker last week, set to arrive today according to the UPS tracking number I received. I was at home all day today because of the holiday, waiting impatiently for my order to arrive. I checked the tracking number around 2:00pm and it said it had been delivered...well of course I went to the front door, then the rest of the outside of the house, and NO PACKAGE!!!! The tracking results showed "DRIVER RELEASE" at 12:30pm, when I was at home, in fact near the front door at that time and I didn't see any delivery or hear the doorbell...

I can only think of 3 things that happened: (1) UPS didn't deliver it yet and the tracking results are wrong, (2) someone stole it off my front porch, or (3) it was delivered to the wrong address (I peeked on the neighbors porches, nothing there).

I did not sign for this, although it was shipped 2nd Day Air. Am I out a BM 710 and a Sharpmaker?? UPS Air in the past has left post-its with a next delivery attempt because no one was home to sign for the package?

Looks like I need to make some calls (UPS, bestknives, cc company). Anybody else have this problem? I've had hundreds of items shipped via UPS in the past with no problems.

Regards,

Jason

Your three options are correct. But, you need only make one call, to UPS. I'd do it right now too. The longer you wait, the colder the trail will get.

UPS is famous for the "knock and drop" delivery.

The last UPS thing I got came when I happened to be at home and expecting the package. The bell rang and I sprang from my chair, did a fifty yard, litterally, dash to the front door, and not only was the driver not there, not only was the truck not in the drive way, but the truck was already out of my cul de sac. The package was sitting on the stoop in front of my door.

My guess is that the driver has some sort of long, retracting poll. They put the package on the stoop, then they back the truck out of the driveway and, from the curb, reach out with this spring-loaded poll and press your bell. After pressing exactly once, the poll instantly retracts under spring pressure and the driver drops the already red-lined engine into gear.

Why do they do this? Because taking the time to talk to you takes -- well -- time. The driver'd have to wait while you fumble with the stylus and sign on the pad thing. He might even have to say, "Thank you. Have a nice day." Do you realize that it takes 2.7 seconds to say "Thank you. Have a nice day." Time is money, you know.

LOL I know they are infamous for their "time and motion" studies...

Calling UPS right now...

Called UPS, and the tracking results were incomplete in the system pending the input of the physical delivery address, and to call back later this evening when that happens.

I also asked the rep if the driver might have marked it delivered when it had not been, and she chuckled and said that it isn't supposed to happen. We'll see.

I hate to think I've got some little thieves running around my neighborhood...

It probably got dropped at the wrong address, 987 3ed Street instead of 987 8th Street or some such thing. As we speak, someone is arriving home to find an unexpected package on their doorstep.

How can you find it?

Simple: just drive around the neighborhood looking for bomb squad trucks or Haz Mat teams.

My serious advice is to keep a careful list of every contact you have with UPS. Note the date and time, the number you called, the name of the person you talked to, what they said, etc. If you feel like you're not making swift progress, insist on a supervisor.

I HATE UPS.

They don't like to make deliveries to residences and it shows. Whenever I buy something I ask if any other method of delivery is avalable. I had two expensive knives on the way here around Christmass. It got into the area on Dec 26 and took until Jan 6 to get to my house. They just kept shipping it between the San Bruno and Oakland hubs until someone was going my way.

I HATE them.

My sentiments exactly bensano.

My wife and I went out to dinner around 6:30pm and returned around 8:00pm, and found the package propped up against the front door.

Having checked the neighbors' houses earlier, I'm assuming the carrier marked my package as delivered at 12:30 although it didn't get to my home until at least 6 hrs later. So much for priority service. I won't be using UPS again anytime soon.

The only people my brother's dog ever tried to bite was the UPS guys. What a smart dog!:D

Well its mostly UPS's fault not the Drivers.. they actually keep track of the drivers thru those pads.. they click into the truck and the info INCLUDING the time is recorded... They have a specific amount of time to be places and if not..well then good luck on the rest of your life.. umm in another job of course...
