i am selling a knife on the beloved ebay and have been asked if i can ship it to germany. does anyone know if this is legal for me to do?

thanks

Itll be OK , ship it .

I sell on ebay regularly , and ship all over the place

Folders are OK , as are most single edged fixed blades .

Look out they dont pay by direct deposit and cost you a bomb in bank fees tho ...

is it just a name change, or has the service been altered?

My understanding is they no longer have the $5 and $10 envelopes that I enjoyed so much, and now charge by weight. There is a flat rate BOX now that costs $37.00 for PMI:eek: There is First Class Mail International, which is affordable and weight based, but relies soley on the shippers packaging.

I apologize for reviving this thread from its grave, but I figure that its better to do so instead of starting a new one.

Friend of mine was suppose to ship a knife to me, a nice little Strider SmF - but when she went to the USPS post office in Medford, MA they told her that it was illegal to do so and that it could result in up to 5 years of jail time.

What to do?

where was the destination?

was it already boxed? or was the knife unwrapped when she went in to the p.o?

if its already boxed, and they ask what it is, tell them its a camping knife. or a pocket knife, or something inocuous.

ive shipped many many times. i normally print the label at home then drop it off at my mailbox center. but when shipping outside of the conus, ive had to go to the post office to add insurance. i dont recall them asking what was in the box. i just put "camping equipment" on the customs label.

When she went to the post office it was unpackaged. I told her afterwards when she informed me that if she had packed it they would probably not have said a beep. But now, seeing as they have told her that its illegal for her to do it she's somewhat scared and refused to try again unless I can 'prove' to her that its actually legal or akin to legal.

I have had knives shipped all over CONUS and I have .. never .. had a problem either way. Granted, I have never cared one bit about misinforming them about its contents.

I've shipped outside the US and all of my customs forms have said "camp tool". That is truthfull and un offensive.

Please inform your friend that she is not shipping a deadly tactical mall ninja deluxe weapon, she is shipping a tool. I also make it a point to always have the knife I am going to ship packaged before I go inside. It is none of their business what I am shipping as long as I am obeying the rules.

Would just like to point out that this time its a matter of shipping the knife within CONUS. Surely the regulations of doing so are not stricter then having the knife shipped internationally ?
Plainly put - she is not comfortable misinforming or misrepresenting anything to the Postal Service, and I think thats a rather good quality in her. So, she won't declare it as anything but a knife if asked.
Yes it is a tool, you know that, I know that, she knows that - but apparently the TSA/USPS doesn't know that or see it that way.

She should have had it packed before she went in - agreed. But whats done is ...
;)

I ship knives from Aus to the US and Canada kinda regular

on the customs form I declare them as "knife x 1 "or "knives x 3" depending on how many there is in the package , the knives vary from little 2 inch folders to 24 inch machetes , not a one has been confiscated or sent back by customs , all have arrived safely . all are declared as merchandise with the real cost value declared and an invoice enclosed in the packet tho none have to my knowledge even been opened by customs .

If I can send a knife into the US where it has to still be handled by the domestic post service , surely there is no problems with sending a knife in the same system from local addy to local addy ?
