shipping myths

I have heard all of these things about HI's speedy delivery, and I guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up again they would be true. Of course I am currently living in occupied hawaii and shipping often gets tricky here. My first buy was a 12" ak, which took almost a month or more to get to be delivered(there was something about the wooden sheaths not drying in the rainy season). The ordering and shipping post says it usually takes approximately 2 to 4 days depending on circumstances in the USA and Territories. Its been 5 days (not counting sunday) since I ordered a ganga ram special that was supposedly shipped out on the same day. Mind you I am not complaining about service, I may be naive about how the postal service works, and 6 or 7 days to hawaii from nevada wouldn't be so bad, but beyond that and the claim of fast shipping is really put into question for me.

Whenever I place an order (always email to make sure its in stock first) I have it the day after tomorrow at the latest.

I also live in Hawaii. First order took 4 days, second order took 6 days. I think it just depends on the post office.

I guess the islands are a different story as the longest I've ever had to wait was 4 days. Most times it only takes 2.

Have you contacted Yangdu? That should always be your first step if you are wondering about a shipment. For me, if item is in stock in Reno, she gets it out the next day and I get it two days after shipping in WV. If she has to order the item from Nepal, then the timeline is not as certain..

The GRS was from dotd 7/30, so it should definitely have been in stock haha. I wont worry about it but if doesnt come in a few days I'll probably contact yangdu.
Thanks everybody. My first kukri was stolen along with my backpack, its been a while replacing it. I am probably not the only one here who feels lost without a blade*

I've bought several blades from Yangdu, Karda and the individual sales forum. Takes anywhere from one to two weeks via Priority Mail to Hilo. That's been my experience so far. Once it's mailed it's out of their control.

In the continental USA, shipping is relatively fast. Priority mail averages 2 to 3 days though sometimes can be longer. I live in a small rural community in the middle of no where so packages tend to take an extra day or two. One to Two weeks sounds about right for a trip to Hawaii.

I got mine two business days after placing the order. Placed on a Monday, got on a Wednesday. There are others that good too.

The promise is to ship FROM H.I. quickly.

Once the package is in the hands of the non-continental U.S. shipping service, one must allow for the inconsistencies of the distribution chain of the postal service.

They are marvelous blades, once you have them, aren't they?

Think of it as a cosmic wetting-of-appetite. :)

Be well and safe.

I can add some insights into H.I. to HI shipping...:D

Seriously, I sell much on eBay and have frequently shipped to Hawaii. I can tell you that the delays are mostly within the island area. I have seen packages get there in two days but get hung up locally for two weeks. Sometimes my tracking information will show delivered and three days later it shows up at the customer. The point is that Yangdu is prompt with shipping and has few exceptions. I see delays on the island end for about 80% of my Hawaii deliveries via USPS Priority mail.

I just wanted to add my own experience to this thread: I ordered a Chiruwa Ang Khola very late in the evening of 8-Aug; early morning of 9-Aug Yangdu emailed to advise me they had sold out and that the next shipment was due within the month. I admit being somewhat disappointed by the news, but I was nonetheless grateful for the quick and courteous response. On 21-Aug it arrived in Canada.

Based on everything I've read about HI blades I had high expectations, and I was not disappointed. According to the Kami mark guide, I believe I owe my thanks to Kami Bhattka for a 16.5" overall (11.5" blade), 31oz functional work of art. This was my first khukuri and my first purchase from HI - it will definitely not be my last.

Over the years I managed to acquire about 170 blades from HI--mostly from Uncle Bill some from Yangdu--they all came USPS--To Canada--usually arrived in 5-7 days--sometimes 2 weeks if an over zealous customs employee decided to 'inspect' my property.Crossing into Canada customs wise is like crossing the Grand Canyon--compared to the Rio Grange crossing which is easy.I guess my point is once HI gives it to the carrier it is out of HI's control. All my dealings with HI were great--I never got any attitude--they were always honest and fair with me.
It took forever when I went to Hawaii--that long wait at O'Hare and the endless flight time to the main island--You just have to accept that Hawaii is a special case--you are way the heck in the middle of a big ocean--I did enjoy my visit there however.
