So I stopped buying my A2 from Pops because Tool Steel Services of California gives shipping for free on orders over a certain amount. Its low too, $180 I think, definitely under $200. Thats easy to reach when ordering steel. They also have 6' bars of certain lengths and a 6' bar usually gives me an additional profile over two 3' bars.

Now Pops has had to raise their prices for shipping 4' bars because UPS calls the package oversized. I was just quoted $76.02 for 4 bars of Nitro V and 15 belts. No can do.

So, is there anywhere y'all know that ships Nitro V for free over a certain amount or is at least reasonable?

Also, just for having good information here, are there other steel suppliers that ship free over a certain amount?

Thanks!

alphaknifesupply doesnt stock nitro V but they do have free shipping and I have been making do with the 23-1/2" lengths. Getting the extra profile or two isnt worth the shipping cost anymore.

This is the website of the company that ships for free over $180 ish, and also has 6' bars. But they really only carry tool steels...

Oh, Pops usually refunds the difference. If you are getting belts and steel, they may need to do 2 boxes. Or they may be able to cut down to 24" for you. Call them and double check! I usually get a good bit refunded back with actual shipping costs from them.

Jantz had a set steel shipping rate, too ($18 IIRC).

NJSB redid their shipping rate last fall or Spring (I think??) to make it more economical. I was just getting the 24" bars instead of 36" because 36" doubled the shipping rate to around $45-$50 versus $20 or so and when I checked last, it was OK to get the 3' bars where I didn't get hit with the extra shipping costs.
