Hey All,

To any Canadians (and shipping-knowledgeable Americans). I have to send a couple of knives to Busse for some TLC. Any thoughts on best (most cost effective and safe - with insurance. Speed is not my primary concern.) method for shipping? I was just going to head down to Canada Post but I figure I should entertain other options too... if anyone has any tips!

I assume that since this is a repair type issue I won't have to deal with duties/taxes again... but you know what happens when we assume :S

Thank you in advance :)

I like to use "Expidited USA". You can add insurance, delivery confirmation and is the most cost effective. It also usually only takes about 5 business days.

I believe there is a customs form that you can get for service work on an item so that Busse wouldn't be faced having to pay duty when they receive your knife, and you having to pay it on its return.

Not really sure how this stuff works but if you give Lexi a call tomorrow at the shop I am sure she can help you out.

I sent a knife back to Busse for work and was dinged for taxes/brokerage on the way back. I had to apply for a refund and got it eventually but it was a bit of a pain. Make sure to ask them to put 'warranty return' on the form and an RMA number if possible.

I sent a knife back via canada post a while ago. I can't remember what specific service I used, but it worked out fine. No customs/brokerage fees on return.

Cool. I'll make sure I ask for the RMA number and "warranty return" to be listed on the return shipping and i'll do the same on my end (minus RMA number).

Garth - I appreciate the advice. Lexi is the one I have the pleasure of working with for these particular requests. She just asked me to send the knives and she will refund the cost. I am just asking for tips to make it most cost-effective and hassle free on both ends :)

Thanks again for all the help guys!

Don't use UPS or you'll have the hassle of brokerage fees to deal with. Just use Canada Post and Expedited shipping, like STJones said.
