I have just recently acquired my first CRK, a small 21. I'm the second owner of this fine knife, and I want to send it in for a spa date. The centering is quite off, the action is very stiff and I'd like it a bit easier, and I'd like to add a double sided thumb stud.

My question is what is the preferred way of packing? How do you all do this? Generic box? Wrapped in plastic and then the shipping box?

I'll figure out something before I send it out this morning, but I was just curious.

I wrap the knife in the blue CRK cloth and put it in it's box along with some bubble wrap. Then I put that in a USPS flat rate box and pack it with styrofoam peanuts or crumpled up newspaper or phone book paper so it's well padded and wont rattle around, then off she goes.

I haven't done it yet, but I am next week, I'm just gonna wrap mine up real good with bubble wrap, and pad the box, in the empty spaces..., USPS small flat rate box, insured 👍🏼

I just wrap it in bubble wrap, place in USPS small flat rate priority box, fill the rest of the box with paper towel or newspaper, and tape the box from every direction-especially the ends.
I suggest you also insure it.
Before you do all that(and pay shipping both ways) you should try taking it apart and cleaning-it may not be put together correctly with the problems you describe.

I wrap the knife good, put it in a baggie with a printout detailing what I want or don't want done to it, then pack it well inside a shipping box. I don't send my CRK box or docs, no sense in risking them getting separated from my knife and lost.

I only send the knife wrapped in a rag, the paperwork CRK requests with all relevant details and put it in a small box packed tightly, and use very strong tape and tape nearly the whole thing.

I do the same thing. If I am shipping multiple knives, each gets bubble wrapped with the instructions for each inside of a Ziploc bag with the knife. I separate the knives inside of the box and fill with Styrofoam peanuts or what ever shock absorbing material you have and I tape the entire box in both directions. I just put CRK (like they suggest) and not Chris Reeve Knives so it less obvious what is in the package.

I think it's worth adding, you may want to get a second knife before you send your first one off, don't be surprised if you don't see your knife back for several months.

Does anyone know what happens if the knife arrives on Friday? Sent two knives in earlier this week and looks like they are going to deliver tomorrow. Hope someone is there on Friday to get mail.

I agree I would just worry about the package sitting in a mailbox all weekend

Throw it in a paper envelope...it'll be just fine! [emoji38]
Just send it how you'd like one received.

They will deliver it Monday, it just happened to me a few weeks back. My Sebenza was going for a spa day and the post office sent me a message saying the business was closed and they would re-deliver Monday.
