I just finished up a Santoku and I'll be sending it to a customer in Europe tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on the "safest" way to send it? UPS? Fed EX? DHL? Or USPS Express/ Priority Mail?

Thanks! :)

P.S. If anyone hasn't tried making a knife from CPM S30V yet, try it! I just made my first from this material, and honestly, hardened to HRC 60 I haven't used a sharper knife. It takes a really sharp edge and is highly recommended. Just make sure you do all your grinding and finishing prior to heat treat, as afterwards trying to sharpen it at that hardness -it makes D2 seem like O1!

Were are you shipping it? If it is in France..just use USPS Express or Global Priority Mail. UPS, FEDEX are good...but the receiver would end up paying more taxes ( even if you declare it at no commercial value ) ;)

I ship knives to Paris and I only use Global Priority Mail. Never lost a single knife and best of all it is cheap :)

I've sent a few out of the country. USPS worked just fine for me. I sent them global priority. You get pretty much the same options as normal priority mail, and they will have any customs paperwork there for you to fill out. Its fairly simple to do.
It does cost quite a bit more though :grumpy:
