Shipping to US from Germany

I thought the Custom knife forum is the appropriate place to ask this question as a lot of collectors are hanging out here.

I have to ship the little integral to Hawaii but a regular insured package via air mail costs 48 Euros .

Does anyone of you know a better (cheaper but still insured) way to get the knife to the USA ?

Thanks a lot for your answers in advance.

Regards,
Marcus

I think i can say with 99% cetainty that the German postal service IS the cheapest method. Courier companes will probably charge at least half as much again, and sting the recipient for their 'processing' fees too.

You can send it as a Letter (if the package is small enough) with registered mail, Brief mit Einschreiben but it is NOT insured. It is tracable to find out where it went missing and registeed mail usually gets through.

Also, normal packages (Post Paket) even with airmail are NOT, repeat NOT insured automatically unless you purchase extra insurance for them because the USA is not a part of some post treaty thing. Don't let the nitwit at the desk tell you they're automatically insured... this is trie of almost every other country but not the USA. That means the 48 Euro aint enough.

On the other hand I have never ever had a packsge lost or stolen no matter how I sent it.

FedEx and UPS are REALLY expensive...
