Have any of you had any difficulties shipping or receiving walrus ivory. I have a fair bit of really nice tusk and would like to put it on a couple of knives that are in the works but don"t want to waste it if I can't ship it into the States. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Steve - I have a few tusks as well. My understanding is: If your product is to be shipped within Canada you will need to obtain an "Interprovincial Transportation Permit" from DFO or MFO. If outside of Canada you'll need a CITES export permit. You can not ship to the USA due to the US Marine Mammal Protection Act of '72.

Peter is right about the CITES export permit, but on top of that the buyer/importer needs an import permit from CITES as well. And that can only be obtained with an export permit already in place. It can be done but it is a bit of a hassle and it can take quite some time.
