I got a Shiro Dr. Death CF today. Beautiful knife. A great add to my collection. But.... the flipping action is not great. I have a Neon ultalite, a 95T, and a Hati G10. They all snap open with a commanding "klink" and all drop slowly for a gravity drop close.

But this Dr. Death requires some thought to get a good flip open. The lightswitch open requires a good follow through and maybe a little wrist flick. The push button open works best but its a bit weak. Both work ok with the blade pointed down.

So... are they all that way?

I am going to play around with lube/ no lube, less and more lockbar tension, different pivot screw tightness. Any other suggestions?

I would wash the knife with warm water, particularly the detent ball track, fully dry it, and apply a tiny drop of oil on the detent ball (or the hole if accessible).

I've seen YouTube videos from Russia of Shirogorov Dr. Death's and the flipping action looked uninspiring. Part of it is due to the awful flipper geometry, which shaped like a lightswitch style flipper but is set so far behind the pivot that you don't get much centrifugal force.

I've also handled Dr. Death clones that are incredibly well machined but had similarly limp flipping action, but a strongish detent.

To get it to flip better, you're going to have to do some pretty serious modifications I would think (redoing the detent ball and hole). I think this is just a given with this model.
