I'm thinking of getting a Shiro and a couple questions for those who may have some insight.

1. NeOn NL vs NeOn R20/Zero : I prefer the size of the NL any other differences besides Size, Relief Cuts, Full Ti, Backspacer? Anyone have both that can distinguish any noticeable fit and finish diferences?

2. I have a Hinderer Tri-Way XM 3" that is so smooth. Not quite drop shut but perfect centering and excellent feel. Anybody have a similar XM and can say the Shiro has a better action?

3. Some users have complained that their Shiro didn't come with that wonderful drop shut action. Any fixes if I get one with a strong detent and/or not great action?

Thanks!

The shirogorov kinfes hands down are about as smooth as a flipper can come. Brand new knifes generally have a little packing grease in them, usually clean it out, a drop of quality oil on each bearing, and some need the pivot even so slightly adjusted with light duty drop of tread locker. I sold half my collection of knife because its very hard to find anything the compares. As for difference in neon lite/original size and the rl/zero. The size, weight, feel is almost impossible to tell much of a difference. They are hardly larger at all, and have more milling so weight is very close. When you have both next to each other only then can you see that the zero size is ever so slightly larger. If you really wanna see the best of the best, try and get your hands on a Custom Division, or one of the collabs with sinkevich, Chris reeve, etc. I find after breaking in the knife a bit, cleaning it well, and a little drop of quality lube goes a long way for that smooth action.

I have both the NL and R20 and I honestly can’t justify the extra $165 for the R20 for the backspacer and m390. The elmax with inlays is a great bang for the buck shiro. The NL is noticeably lighter for me as well. I’d say if you prefer the look of the R20 and can justify the cost, go for it but for ME as an owner of both, I say the NL is THE entry level Shiro... the one to buy and decide if you want to dive in.
Both are very EDC friendly, not massive blades that will send people running away screaming. But you do need to keep those fingers off the lockbar when opening... and that takes some getting used to with such a small knife.

The NL is the new version of the Ultra Light. Same exact design but with inlays. In my opinion the Neon Zero models are tangibly better. Worth the extra $200? Not sure, but it is a step up.

I don’t have a NeOn NL (had an F95NL and the f&f was every bit as good as my other Shiros) but do currently have a NeOn Lite, HatiOn Lite and NeOn R20 and can honestly say that you can’t go wrong with any variation.

When the R20 debuted I kept telling myself that I didn’t need another NeOn-sized model but just loved the aesthetics of it too much to not grab one and sold a HatiOn Zero and put the funds toward it.

I have several XMs on bearings (including a stonewashed 3” spanto) and, as good as the action is, the Shiros for the most part really are that much better.

Thanks everyone for the responses, going to pull the trigger on the NL! I'd love a Quantum or an F95 but way to large for my taste in knives. If it's that good I'll probably purge some knives and go for a Custom Division.

I'd love to see a true CRK Shiro Collab.... or just a CRK Flipper... Maybe one day, probably not.
