Meanwhile in Russia…

Hi everyone!

Glad to present the community Shirogorov Flipper 95 of Custom Division, named “Slim” for its 3.5 mm blade thickness and milled Ti scales.

At first is the general look of the knife and traditionally some words about knife specs:

Knife Specs
Open – 8.78” (22.3 cm)
Closed - 5.03” (12.8 cm)
Blade length– 3.75” (9.5 cm)
Blade thickness – 0.14” (3.5 mm)
Blade steel – S90V (58-59 HRC)
Edge length – 3.94” (10.0 cm).
Lock – frame-lock
Handle: titanium
Handle thickness – 0.46” (11.7 mm) !!!
Clip – not reversible, tip-up
Weight – 4.23 Oz. (120 g) !!!
Bearings system - SRRBS

Idea was to make a smooth and lightweight folder that would not be felt on the pocket and still have all the failsafe features of full Ti Flipper95.

Let’s go look what we have here and why this is called Custom Division.

Handle

Basically made of two Ti scales assembled with pivot point and backspacer standoff.

No sign of any play in scales when gripping the knife, finishing is smooth and matte, pleasing tactile in hand.
Being fully titanium these are very light as have four milled pockets inside. These are also a bit thinner than the scales of a Serial Flipper that effects the weight as well.

Inside we see the SRRBS symbol and Custom Division designation with knife individual number.
Standoff is titanium as well and has a stylish anodized groove.

Pocket clip is different from a Serial F95 for it has a concealed screw fixation to scale, so that it is more protected from the clip screw goes untwisted.

Frame inner edge has a concaved bevel and steel lock bar insert. Ceramic detent ball is installed right into the Ti frame.

Blade

As I said in the start of my review it is only 3.5 mm thick in spine, that is together with S90V steel, flat grind and small bevel thickness at the edge makes the blade a perfect cutter. We see jimpings on the spine and satinned flats – clean and neat work I should say.

Check out comparison with a Serial Flipper 95 with a 4 mm thick blade

Blade flies open with a boost flip granted by SRRBS - single-row roller bearing system – 17 small rollers from each side in a clip. On a Serial production Flipper95 SBW use only bronze washers and single-row ball-bearings system, rollers are a privilege of Custom Division and Sergey Shirogorov custom knifes. Having smoothest flip like the ball-bearings have, rollers have stronger resistance to blade axial load when performing hard use, cutting wood for instance.

See how the blade is centered and locked up with a frame-lock to rock-solid state.

For dessert, however “Slim” looks thin, elegant and is more like a razor than a crow-bar it is a brawny fellow actually. When visiting SBW we tested it for an axial load to the pivot point.

110 pounds were applied, knife bended, resisted and withstand the test! No destruction or deformations to any part of the knife – still on duty with clockwork mechanics. And this is not a critical load.

Impressive! Seems to be my EDC pushing Hati out of the pocket )))

All the best and a sharp edge,

Well executed very clean knife

This is my idea of a well done proper proportioned folder

Nice to see a nice tool vs the bricks that are so popular these days

Finally!! That is a modern folder as i like them: simple in appeareance, elegant, and with an useful blade! Definitely way to go, and i would even dare to test a 2,5 to 3 mm thick blade.

....is an impressive writeup and photo tutorial review.

If I didn't want before, I certainly do now!

Lots of incredibly subtle and effective engineering.

Thanks.

I'm a fan of the Shiro flippers and I believe this is my favorite so far. Clean, great proportions and looks like it'd be a GREAT slicer as any good pocket knife should be. I'm not a fan of the brick-like tacticool folders much so I'm glad to see this one and the detailed write-up.

How would I go about purchasing one?

I admire your thoroughness. These days, things are made to look good from the outside to suggest quality, value, performance, and maximize sales. Your knives are beautiful inside and out, even through a microscope. You attend to detail the typical user will never be aware of.

This can only come from the heart of a true artist.

thank you!
