shivworks, any thoughts?

in one of the older TKs was an article on the defense knives from shivworks. has anybody used them, how do they compare to less pricier items?

Seems to me that if you practice Pikal, you have to either buy a Shivworks or get a custom made to your specs to get a knife optimized for that style. So to which "less pricier items" would they compare?

The Shivworks knives are designed for quick access and an optimal grip when used in a particular way. The blade shapes seem like the most unusual aspect of these knives, but they aren't. If you practice drawing and using a knife, you will see the advantages to the Shivworks stuff and you will realize that there aren't any other products on the market (except customs) like these. If you don't practice, or if you practice "traditional knife fighting" with a fencing or Filipino grip, you are wasting your money - get something else.
