I'm looking to purchase this knife.

I'd love some opinions on it first though. Thanks so much for any input.

you want this for what? a little expensive for a trainer!

If you're looking for a similar knife but a real one the Busse Combat
SUS SCROFA should do it.

ho sorry i did'nt see the edged one! Is it a good knife? No idea, but i would keep myself away from a knife of this design in
s30v

There's nothing wrong with S30V in a knife of that size. You'll see once people start getting into the larger fixed blades that a carbon tool steel is the preferred steel. But for a small fixed blade S30V is just fine.

The Disciple is purely for self defense. If that's what you are after and you are comfortable with that design I guess that's what you should get. I would recommend taking a look at the Spyderco Civilian also.

no need for super steel in a self defense knife.. any 420 or 440 would make the job.

my 2 cents

Nope it's been proven that zombies are especially vulnerable to S30V. It's a fact.

On a serious note tho the choice of steel isn't a reason to avoid the knife. It's a stainless steel and that's what you want. If you don't like the added price that's another thing.

Just personal opinion here but I find it to be too unconventional. I would be a lot more comfortable with a double edge or one with the sharp edge in the downhand cutting position. That may be just me though, but in a stressful SD situation I don't want to have to think about which side of the blade is going to cut.

I really like the Shivworks style, based on the free training articles on the website, and I've been tossing the idea around about buying one of these little guys. Since I'm on a budget, though, I picked up a CS talon spike from knifecenter for about $24. It works well in the reverse edge-in grip, with my thumb securing it. I say go for it, if it strikes your fancy, but there are cheaper alternatives that would also be quite good in a self-defense role.
