Okay awhile back there was a thread about guys getting shocked by there grizzley grinder. well I think that I may have found the problem. If you are useing a pyroceramic platen that may be the culprit. TOnight i was grinding on a blade and saw blue arcs comeing from the platen to the blade/my fingers. If my techno geek training was correct it would be the same thing as rubbing a glass rod in a silk scarf.

Any grinder with a pyroceram platen liner builds up a static charge, especially in low humidity conditions, and discharges to the most convenient ground, usually the one holding the blade.

It's not just grizzly sanders.

Can you attach a wire to the platen and ground it to your workbench somehow to keep you from getting zapped?
