Went and saw Shoot'Em Up tonight for the most part I liked the film, but I had some issues with the second half. The film is basically about an Unnamed Hero (Clive Owen) with a fondness for carrots who is sitting on a bench when a pregnant lady runs by. She is shortly followed buy a bad guy with a gun and our Hero decides to step in. What follows is action scenes so outrages and absurd that it makes John Woo movies look like official training films in comparison.
Brief summery of a few scenes to give you an idea.
Well the first thing is Hero must have Jaws of steel because those carrots he is always chomping are hard enough to punch through a mans skull which is how he kills the first bad guy takes his gun then proceeds to have a gunfight with several other bad guys while delivering the baby and separating the umbilical cord with a gunshot. It gets wilder and more outrageous from there.The mother is killed shortly thereafter leaving him to protect the baby from Bad Guy (Paul Giamata)
Another scene has him having a gunfight while sex with a lactating hooker he has hooked up with to take care of the baby and never missing a stoke while killing several bad guys.
The only bad part is somehow this ultra violent over the top fun action movie becomes an anti gun anti second amendment movie.
You see the Hero that shoots people that annoy him is somehow anti-gun and the the bad guys turn out to be gun manufactures who want the baby dead because his bone marrow can save an anti gun senator who has cancer but a good shot at the White House and if he goes in he will ban guns.
Stupid and confusing I know but there it is.
The action was great if you like an absurd over the top action popcorn movie, but the politics really turned me off.
On the whole a fun movie.
