shooting a snmake with a 150 pound compound crossbow?

NO, DON'T DO IT!!!!!

The bolt will just bounce off and piss the snake off, probably causing it to bite you and possibly pissing it off to the point it hunts your family down and bites them too.

If this is a serious question, yes it will kill it. Chris

A good sized rock or a shovel will do the same job, and more reliably. A crossbow would be close to my last choice for snake "deanimation". I like a shotgun loaded with birdshot, personally. Shoot for the head, in any event.

Edit; I just noticed the spelling- what's a snmake? ;)

These guys didn't need no stinkin' crossbow

I guess it just depends on what size of SNMAKE you are dealing with

What kind of an Aussie are you? throw a bottle of whiskey at it ;P
Empty bottle :P

Just a guess , but looking at his fingers decomposing , I think it may be.
Anyone want to check Snopes for confermation ?

Phil

Holy cow! That is a some big snake. That snake in the cage gives a whole new meaning to "don't let the snake out of the cage!"

Think I would take my 870 with #4 buckshot! That thing is gigantic.

If they faked it they did a dang good job ;)

In most cases, once the snake knows you are there, it will try and get away so there will be no need to kill it.
Snakes do a great job in keeping the rat and mice population in check so only kill one as a last resort.
As someone else said, yeah a crossbow will kill the snake if you hit it but I would rather rather use a stout stick !!!

Is that last pic for real?

Unverified, however Snopes does (I believe correctly) maintain that any photographs of humans eaten by snakes are almost certainly false. There's yet to be a known case of a live, resisting average-sized human who can be swallowed whole by a snake.

I don't know if that's true, but I trust their researchers more than I trust my own suspicions!

1894's posts show a discrepancy.

Note the difference in size of the person in these pics:

ATT00024.jpg

ATT00021.jpg

In the first image, you've got a five-foot-six adult there; in the second one, that's the size of a two-year-old child. Based on body pose, you have to conclude that's supposed to be the same snake, same victim.

I conclude falsified...but a good one!

Regarding the gator picture:

The picture is true, but the interpretation is usually incorrect. The most notable concern is the absence of the snake's head. It seems that these corpses may have been dumped by a poacher, or something equally strange. The general feel is that this snake did not try to eat the gator...indeed, something weirder seems to have happened.

A 150lb. crossbow will kill just about anything...if you can hit it. Keep in mind, many snakes can strike 3/4 of their total body length in less time than it takes you to blink your eye. I don't believe there's a situation where you SHOULD kill the snake, except for food in an emergency, but if it has to be done, a good strong whack on the head and then decapitation. But don't touch the head; a detached snake head can bite for days after it's been removed.

Agreed....I tend to use the "I won't F#$# with you if you dont F#$# with me" policy when it comes to snakes. As long as they keep the filthy rodent population in check...they can stay. :)

This was in the everglades. An escaped pet python ate this alligator and "exploded" It was sent to the Ranger office where i worked from Everglades NP.
