Shooting Pairs

Something I find myself doing when I go to the range is shooting "pairs." Pairs as in similar action types. Examples like Glock 17/ Glock 43, S&W 629/ Taurus 85, Kimber 1911/ Beretta 950 BS (I know, it`s a "mousegun", but it`s still fun to shoot), Ruger Single Six/ NAA Mini Revolver.
Anyone else do this?

It's funny you ask. My favorite deer rifle is a Ruger compact 308. I set up a Ruger 77/22 with the same scope. The two are similar enough that the 22 makes good practice for the 308. Last month I decided on the spur of the moment to take a quick trip to the range. I grabbed my shooting bag which had everything I needed. I opened my gun safe grabbed a rifle, slipped it into it's case and headed out. After hanging a target and setting up my rest. I set my 308 ammo on the bench and promptly pulled the 77/22 from the case.

Glock 17 and 20. Both completely stock. 9mm is for two legged predators, 10mm is for the four legged variety.

I will do that on the occasion that I get to the range just for myself - I will either take my two 1911 carry pieces and the Gold Cup, or two USPSA type stockers to practice.

The 1911s are a Kimber Ultra RCPII, and a Colt Mustang XSP, and a Colt Gold Cup Trophy Match - love shooting those three.

The other pair that is likely to come out are the S&W PC Ported and the XD/m 5.25 - both smooth shooters.

I will sometimes get out some "student guns"; the H&K VP9 and the Glock 17 I got from Coop.

I rarely get out my Glock .23 anymore, probably should get back out and see if I can still point-shoot with it.

Most range days the Les Baer PII gets a good workout and I also bring a Glock 30; hey it's another .45. Sometimes I'm in a Revolver mood and will shoot a S&W 686 with a 3 inch barrel and complement it with a S&W 640 PRO which has become my winter carry gun. Please note "winter" is a loose term here in SW FL. It is in the 80's today. Now for the kicker. I will be picking up a Henry Lever Action Rifle today. It is a Big Boy Steel configured in .357 magnum/38 special. Now that will complement the 686.

Love those Les Baer guns, several of the guys here have them. As for the 686, I wish more revolvers came with 3" barrels, my 629 has one, and years ago I had a Model 13 with a 3" barrel. Ruger is bringing a 5 shot 3" barrel GP-100 in .44 Special, that should be sweet!

I'm thinkin bout unloading a .357.... figuratively.😆 That would be a nice replacement. Is there a release date?

Short-barreled big bores can be fun.

The GP100 was one of my first brand new guns - and my first really nice revolver. Mine had the 4.2" barrel and Goncalo Alves insert on the grip.

An awesome piece that I wish I still had - it was a sweet shooter, very comfortable for larger hands and the spicy .357 caliber.

I would really like to take my S&W, Model 13, SS, 4" out, along with my S&W, Model 686, blued, 6", and my S&W, Model 500, SS, 7-1/2". I have really been wanting to do that but, the place we have up here charges like $35.00 an hour, plus I guess they are really ridged about what you can shoot. I'd rather put that kind of money toward my guns.

Some nice revolvers there. Not sure why, but I've always had a liking to the blued revolvers. That stinks about your range pricing. I'm lucky to have a beautiful outdoor range club near me. I won't begrudge you with the fee.😉

Well, that's exactly the kind of place I'm looking for. That's a little to far for me to have to drivers get to a range. There is a possibility that we could be looking for a new place down around Madison, AL. If that happens I won't have to worry about it. There are plenty of places to go shooting. That's what I'm hoping for but, I have to let the Woman look down in Merritt, FL first. If she doesn't find something there the next step is Madison. I will be one happy individual when that happens.

I'm real partial to guns but, I do like my revolver's. I'd like to have a couple of Ruger's too. Time will tell. Later Bud.
