Folks:

Sorry for the off-topic thread, but had a small problem and figured it was worth a try to ask you. I have been getting "Shooting Times" and a bunch of other gun mags since the late 70's. I have never missed an issue. Anyway, ST screwed up my renewal and I ended up not getting the July '03 and August '03 issues. They do not provide back issues any longer. (Since a whole year of ST is only about $20, you would think they would do a good business providing back issues at $8 or $10 each, but they're no longer interested in providing this service.)

I want to fill in the gaps in my collection, and I know many folks just read 'em and toss 'em, so if any of you have the issues in question and are willing to part with them then let me know. I'll be glad to pay $10 an issue to expedite things. The local library actually has them, but they're not for sale and I didn't want to generate the bad karma by swiping them!

Thanks for checking around for me, and please email me directly if you'd like to do business.

Regards,

Svashtar

I'll take a look when I get home and see if I have them still. I pass most of them on to the peeps when I'm done with them; there are still a few hanging around though.;)

If I have them you don't owe me any money but will have to accept whatever condition baby left them in. Baby is 17 months and likes Shooting Times. I don't have many covers left.

Shooting Times has fallen to the point where I wish I didn't have a couple years left on my subscription. All the good writers left for Guns n Ammo. We have Mike Venturino and I am pretty burned out on anything Mike V has to say. Dick Metcalf seems to have all but disapeared.

An issue or so ago, Mike informed us that he wasn't surprised his scoped O3 sniper rifle turned in worse groups than an iron sighted model because in his reading he'd learned those sniper rifles were not particularly accurate. Well, gee, Mike. Could it be your particular specimen wasn't tuned, or had a bad barrel, or?
I worked with a former Marine WWll sniper. He would no longer hunt. He'd had it with war and shooting. But he'd done his share, and he swore by the O3.

I think it may be true the 03 is edged out by the Mauser but under no circumstances could that get translated to not particularly accurate. Poor writing or poor thinking, I don't care.

Hi Svashtar,

I have July 2003. Shoot me an email to the address in my profile and I will send it to you. I should have August03 somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks to everyone for checking! Teo, I tried to email but got a mesage that your profile is evidently setup to not accept email right now from HI forumites (?)

I will check again later and hope to be able to contact you, or you can email me and I can respond. Your call.

Munk, I agree with you about the writing being in decline, but there are usually some good reloading tips and overall they do a pretty good job. I've just been getting it so damned long I hate to miss one. Pretty soon though I am going to have to resort to scanning in the old issues are doing away with them, as space is getting to be a factor.

Regards,

Svashtar

Thanks

I thought you meant SHOOTING TIMES AND Country Magazine, a United Kingdom publication...very pricey, and enormously depressing to any American hunter. All the limits, permissions, restrictions, and "guided pidgeon shoots" ewwwwwwww. One gets the impression it is a publication for the wealthy sportsman.

Ten years ago a friend sent me a couple from England. Americans have no idea of the freedoms we have and enjoy by comparison.

I agree that ST has declined, but Rick Jamison still does some of the best technical articles out there (mostly on reloading and new ammo/components. The new writer (I think his name is Portier?) also does a good job.

How about Shotgun News? They finally have the occasional good article.

Adios,
stevo

Yes, Jamison is stalwart.

Did Ross pass away?

Did Dean Grennel pass away? He was the handloading expert I enjoyed the most.

GunsnAmmo reads like an old issue of ShootingTimes; many of the best writers used to be there. I'm not certain of this, but think both mags may be owned by the same mega corp.

Then you subscribed to his Mag? Robert Stack did the shotgun section. What was the name of that? Is it still going?

Thanks for the spelling btw. Dean wrote so well it always went right to my heart and funnybone. I got such a kick out of him. He had all this reloading equipment but as often or not he'd cobble up some loads on a little Lee press, maybe the turret.

I'll always remember what he said about the 41 in Nosler # 3

I have the Handloader digest when he and Wiley Clap did 'double data' on most well known handguns. Venturino wrote a spot there too.

I've probably mispelled Clap's name too!

It was Gun World. Yep, we both missed vintage Dean for many years in that mag.
