My oldest son had his kids here over the weekend, and he wanted to get them more interested in shooting. So he bought a Ruger 10/22 so they could enjoy themselves when the went with us. Saturday we went to our usual spot. First, a picture of my sons with some of their toys:

And the grandsons with the new 10/22:

They all had a good time. And here are some views of the area where we go:

very cool John... great pics... that is some quality family time...:) i'm looking into getting a 10/22 so my boys can shoot some more..

did Ian trick out his shotgun??:D

Nice! My dad bought me the same gun when I was about 10. Mine had a scope and 30 rd mag.

I didn't know he had kids!

Yes, Ian wasn't satisfied with the plain black, so he taped off parts of it and then hit it with some OD spray paint.

He actually likes shooting clays with that short barrel and no choke - as long as he gets the shot off quickly (which he does) he can't miss. He's getting fairly consistent with hitting three clays on one throw.

I sure wish I had an area like that close by. I can't stand shooting indoors. Great pics.

Word of the day - Cherish.

That's for sure. I remember when the second son was two years old, and we were living in St Louis. We drove out west to visit family, and on the way we stopped in Wyoming to do a little plinking with my .22 (Browning BLR). I had to support the rifle while he pulled the trigger, and after the first shot he said "I shot a gun!"

Now he doesn't do much with us (it seems that his friends always take precedence over family), but I can always count on a shooting expedition to get him to go with us.

And Dipbait - all of those pines visible around our shooting spot are ponderosa pines.
