I have been wanting to write this for a while but just haven't had the time, so here it is. This is for the benefit of all of the new forumites and HI customers out there.

Uncle Bill and many of us have been blowing the trumpet for shop 2's products and with good reason. They are second to none. But this should not be taken to imply that shop 1's offerings are inferior products. I own more shop 1 knives than shop 2 knives and my favorite is still a shop 1 blade. It is a 15" Ang Kohla. I have done things to this knive that would destroy most other knives and it has been unfazed. I have tried to hurt this blade and have been unsuccessful. My Super Salyan is a shop 1 blade and it is a beast without peer!!
I bring this up because I recall that Uncle Bill had made the statement that people were passing up shop 1 blades to wait for for shop 2 blades. That is certainly your choice to do so but don't do it because you think that shop 1 blades are poor. Nothing could be farther from the truth!

Many thanks, Mike. Recent serious illnesses down at shop 1 has hit hard. A lack of master kamis is another problem. And, they are down in the Terai so logistics is and always has been a major problem.

Shop 2 has the advantage of being located in the Kathmandu Valley. Easy communications and they have electricity and power equipment. Plus, they have as foreman the Royal Kami. Given these advantages they are doing a better job. Shop 1 for years made excellent khukuris. Shop 2 is just making them a little more excellently.

Shop 1... Shop 2... Doesn't really matter to me. If it's HI, it is likely a user and a keeper!
