This is one of the "questionable" khukuris Bill gave us a deal on. I just got back from vacation so I just around to looking at it.
It's a lovely knife in design - my wife fell in love with it at first sight.
The problems I noticed right away was a significant twist running the length of the blade from handle to tip, several cracks in the handle, and the brass between the blade and handle was pretty loose. It came with a fairly good edge.
I took it outside and gave it a couple whacks into a log. Swinging from the left gave good penetration and bite, but when swung from the other direction the knife was more likely to glace off than bite. This is about what I had expected given the twist in the blade. I could compensate for the twist by being concientious, but was quiet counter-intuitive.
The tang seems fine, and all other aspects of the knife are quite nice. I'm sending it back to Bill for his inspection, and I'm really wanting to get another (my wife just LOVES this khukuri's design!)
I can't wait to get the 18"AK I ordered. If the sirupati is considered "light and thin" the AK must be a beast!
