I've been working on this for the last couple weeks. i have a 25lb little giant that i bought from a freind and i bought a log splitter to turn into a press for making canned damascus, i just needed a place to put it all. A freind came over and helped me build it, he's kinda anal so it came out a lot better than i was going to make it. I wont be able to paint it until next spring and i also need to put some kind of crushed rock on the floor but that will have to wait till spring also. In a few weeks i'll be a damascus makin fool

Here are some progress pics:

I got the hammer frame in the shop today, it only took 4 of us to move it. I still have a lot of work to do before this thing is up and running, i have to make a wood platform to put between the cement pad and the base of the hammer, make a mount for the motor and make upper and lower dies. here's a photo:

Your shop is the exact size and color of mine. I even have a leanto addition on it also except mine is full of 4 chords of fire wood, some knife steel and assorted handle woods. By next summer I will have a gravity feed pellet stove so the leanto part will be the forge and anvil "hot shop".

I will have to build a shed to store the pellets but that is easier then building a whole new shop.

Show us pics when you have it all finished.

That looks good Les.

You do realize making damascus will cut into your knife making time a bunch? ;) :D

:) Yup, its going to have to be treated as a hobby (just like knifemaking was before it became my job) and i'll make damascus in the evening and mostly in the winter. I've actualy been making damascus for several years (by hand  ) and then hanging with Keith Johnson up in Bemidji.

You live in Minnesota, Les. You will HAVE to make damascus because without that forge running, you will DIE out there in that lean to in January:D
