OK, almost time to close up my basement shop and move. Anyone have any tricks for cleaning up the concrete floor when I leave? I live in government quarters, it's always hit or miss as to how well they will inspect. I've spilled the usual things such as Ferric Chloride, Quench Oil, epoxy, etc. What's the best way to clean all that up? Thanks,

Ryan

Whit, if you have good ventilation and are able to hose it off i would reccomend muriatic acid mixed with water 5 to 1. I use that to clean pools before the final coat is put on.Just be careful that stuff'll kill ya :)
oh yeah dont add water to acid or something like that

A couple gallons of cheap floor paint and you are good to go. ;)

I've done this with diluted muratic acid. It does work and is a lot cheaper than paint. I think there are acidic concrete cleaning solutions that may be a little less volitile, but muratic will clean things right up.
As Valimus said--Ventilation is hugely important!!.

Yeah but ANY stain on the concrete, and a government employee having a bad day = failed inspection. When I was in the Service, the motto was if it didnt move, paint it. Nothing says clean and ready to go in the military life like a fresh coat of paint. :p

Not being argumentative, just trying to fit the solution to the situation, because I have been there. Living in military quarters is wonderful until you have to move, then you realize you have the most-anal landlord in the world. Anything gone worng and they can put your next duty assignment on hold until its all cleared up!

Good to know that some things don't change Jeff. You're so right about the fresh coat of paint. Tell a soldier to clean something, and he'll paint it if he can. Like I said, inspections seem to be hit or miss around here. Maybe I could distract the inspector by showing him a knife or two! When I left Fort Drum, a conversation about pickup trucks was what got all of my equipment turned in without really being as clean as it should have been!

Ah, that's the key. (I've never been in military housing).
If they'll accept paint, that's probably the easiest solution. Good advice!
