I know it's probably been done before, but Nick's story about the wayward husky that adopted him is still fresh in my mind. I spent most of the day in the shop today and without the wife and kids around the dog had me all to himself. He didn't want to do anything but hang out while I worked, so here are a couple of pics of my only boy (I have two daughters:D).

Let's see some shots of your grinding partner if you have one....

He sure is a pretty boy!!! :)

Your picture of him in the snow is one of my all time favorite dog photos.  :)

Thanks Nick! I can't remember exactly which one that was. We spend a lot of time in the mountains in the winter and I love to take pics of him in the snow. Here is my favorite, I wanted to get a good shot of him at a full run. My wife was starting to get annoyed after twenty or so tries because she had to throw the ball for him but I finally got this shot and settled:D

I included my little buddy in the crappy little video I shot with my Nikon point and shoot for Lorien's thread in the custom section.

Since Shadow dog is specifically included in the end of the video, I'll post it in here too. :)

Great Photo!
Looks like they both were having a lot of fun.

Hey Jon,

Here's my girl. She doesn't want to sit under the grinder, but she sits under my feet when I browse BF.

Erik,
She's a good lookin' girl:thumbup:

It's probably a good thing she doesn't want to sit under the grinder. I usually have to shoo my buddy back into the house when I'm grinding stuff like G-10 because I can't find a good respirator for a retriever:D It's nice that he wants to hang out, but I'd hate for him to get sick from breathing anything nasty.

But.....if there's nothing toxic in the air it's nice to have him by my side. The other benefit is that I have somebody watching my back. When weather permits I like to have the garage door open because of the added light that helps me see things, but when I've got machinery running, a respirator on, and my back is turned, you can't tell when somebody is walking up behind you. Ozzy ALWAYS lets me know when somebody is close. I like that:D

Great looking dog guys!
I am curious about one thing. Even if you don't have G10 or similar nasty stuff in the shop, the other crap like simply the metal chips from the mill/lathe would seem like very dangerous for our furry friends.
Of course I am not talking to Nick, his shop floor is probably cleaner than my house. ;)

Good point, Patrice
My shop is set up in my garage and my benches and machineray line the walls. Ozzy usually sits/lays directly in the middle of the floor and he's clear of debris for the most part. I'm not perfect but I'm pretty tidy and clean as I go. Not too much debris on the floor. I could be put him in the house and not have to clean so much, but then I'd have to listen to him crying to come out, even over the noise of the grinder!!!:D

No, you're right Patrice!!! Shadow likes to run right through the chips right after I drill a hole or some such thing, and I'm sure one of these days I'll be taking him to the vet to get an infected steel sliver removed. I TRY to keep him out of stuff like that, but am not always successful. :o

Very pretty girl Erik! :) She looks very dignified sitting there! :)

Angi took me away to Cannon Beach, OR, this past week-end and with the nice weather we lucked out on.... the beach was a dog lover's heaven!!! Since the entire thing was a surprise for me on Angi's part, we didn't take Shadow... but then again since he's such a runner.... I'm worried if we had taken him...he'd be somewhere in the hills of coastal Oregon right now  :)

I like the looks of those Aussies:thumbup: I would consider having one, but every time I even mention a dog other than a Golden Retriever my wife gives me that look!!:D

Here's our dog Jasper. He's also an Aussie.
He looks like yours alb1k, where did you get her? We got Jasper from a breeder in KY.

Aussie's are great dogs. Good temperament, very smart and he herds my kids. Is is a high energy dog and loves the water.

Golden's are nice but everyone's got one.

Thanks Nick, I should also mention it in "Wheeler's Steel.." but that post and your skills are absolutely amazing. You make me want to either do better or quit. I'll decide later, lol.

Chuck, Lola came to us from a breeder in Montana. She likes snow and sheep.

heres my shop dogs.
Elly, Lucy and copper.
Copper is twice this big now and all three cant fit in the employee lounge anymore. He is part American Mastiff and Walker Hound. Smart too. I want to train him to blood trail.

Copper at 6 weeks

Yeah, Chuck...but not everybody has MY Golden!:p:D

He really is a good boy. Our last Golden died before we had kids and we weren't going to get another dog while they were still little, but my oldest daughter suffers from mental illness and we thought having a Golden would be therapeutic for her and keep her calm. He's done all that and more. He's smart, obedient, and looks out for the kids. I don't know what we'd do with him!

Well we had a scary thing happen yesterday that's worth mentioning here!

Angi came up and we took Shadow on one of our favorite 5 mile walks. About 4 miles into it, there's an old farmhouse that has a big, old Rottweiler. He has ALWAYS been tied up, and is usually too put out to even stand up while he barks at us on our way past the house.

Yesterday there was a bull-dog of some sort at that house and he came running out to the road to see who we were. I looked up, and sure as shit here comes that old Rottweiler... NOT TIED UP.

I tried really hard not to panic, but that didn't work very well. I looked at Angi and said, "I don't know what to do!!!" All the while flashbacks from when I was a teenager and my neighbor's Rottweiler, Rambo (120 pounds of head, teeth, neck, and chest) got loose and latched onto some random dog walking through our neighborhood. Rambo's owner's dad was there at the time, and he hit Rambo with an aluminum bat about 6 times before Rambo finally let go of the other dog. The other dog lived, but it took something like a couple dozen stitches and a $1500 vet bill.

So back to yesterday- The big Rot comes trotting toward us... not running full bore, or snarling, or even barking. I have this tiny bit of relief that maybe, JUST MAYBE he's only going to "say hello."

He gets up beside Shadow, takes a quick wiff of him, and then opened up his huge bear-trap of a mouth and dove right toward the small of Shadow's back!!! :(

Now mind you, I'm an animal lover and I don't want to hurt them... but when it comes to me hurting them, or them hurting me or my family... My familia wins out every time.

Luckily I had positioned myself just right--- and RIGHT BEFORE his teeth made contact with Shadow..... I hauled off and kicked that mother f'er right in his side as HARD AS I COULD. And that must have been pretty hard because he's about a 120# dog and he flew all the way over by the opposite ditch line, and decided to back off just long enough for us to get away from there.

The ONLY reason that worked, is because he's an old Rot and he didn't have the gumption to stick with it. I hate to think how it would have went down had the Rot been young like Shadow is. I wouldn't have been able to stop him. Time to start carrying a fighter when we walk I guess! :(

One of my Dad's friends has a 100 pound PitBull... and if it would have been that dog or one like him, Shadow would be dead and I would either be dead too or in the hospital.

How do you guys prepare for and/or handle this type of situation??????
