After hanging around this Forum for the past 5yrs or so it is time to give a little back. A hearty thanks to all those who have helped me in the past as well.
Here are some pics of a punch I made for making Folder washers
Easy took about 45mins to do and well worth the effort for the long term
Got the idea from another makers webpage who was using SS razor blades...sorry forgot the name. Mine is just a larger version.
1: Get a roll of .005 Phosphor Bronze Shim material (Or whatever material you want to use) mine came from from McMaster Carr (Do a Google search)
2: I used two pieces of mild steel 3/16" X 2" wide stock cut to your length preference
3: I used some graph paper to lay out four hole's Small and large so they are evenly spaced. You can first punch the small holes and then the large ones and if you did it right they will line up.
4:Clean off the scale on the inside and Clamp the two bars solidly together so they won't move when drilled
5: Drill the small holes the size of your pivot pin
6: Drill the large hole the size you want for the outside diameter of the washer
7: Drill four holes at the corners for your clamp/bolts I used 1/4" flat head torx screws from Ace Hdwre and countersunk so the screws will lay flat
8: Grind a little away (Where the plates meet) where your bolts go thru so the center where your punch holes are sit higher. This gives a little flex at the end and gives a tighter compression where the shim material is held in place. Hope that makes sense
9:I used a piece of 1/2" round mild steel for the larger punch and the flattened end of a dull drill bit for the small punch. Just match the hole size you made. I will be getting some pin punch's to do this later funds permitting
IF ANYBODY cares to jump in and add some folder making tips it would be greatly appreciated!!!
