If you need to do fine lines with a lot of definition in your filework you can use a hacksaw blade. The trick is to use something fine like a 32tpi blade, and wrap all but the last inch or so on each end in duct tape or electrical tape. At least on the starret blades I use, the last inch on each end has no set to the teeth. Cuts a very nice fine line.

Watch Mr. Claude Montjoy do a demo on filing the a "rope" pattern on the spline, he used a hacksaw blade that he had thinned down on his surface grinder. It was so thin that simply cut a very thin line, I think he said to take it down to twenty thousand of an inch. Good luck
