The biggest complaint I keep hearing about whitetail is its lack of character. I've found that if you soak it in olive oil, you'll get a translucence that shows off all kinds of character.

This handle was stark white when it started.

It does look nice. I presume you seal it somehow - or is it just a slippery little sucker?

Actually, I just degreased it. It has a polish of 2000 grit on the smooth surfaces, and sort of sticks to the hand. Don't know if I can explain it better than that.

Virtually any oil; neatsfoot, olive oil, transmission fluid, etc. will "enhance" stag in this way.

I don't doubt it, but olive oil or baby oil would be by far the least offensive smelling of the choices. Maybe rose or clove oil, too, but that's kind of exotic. Just make sure you don't use the garlic scented variety of olive oil. It'll make your hands smell like you've been eating italian.
