I was at a friends house on Friday and saw what he uses for a shop bench.
He got an electrical cable spool (one of the big ones) and flipped it onto the flat side.
He has enough room for placeing about 3-4 pieces of machinery on it.
You can find these made out of wood or plastic. Check your local phone company. They should have an abundance of them sitting around.

Am I the only one that has a home built revolving work bench??? It's 4 by 4 and has a sheet of 3/4" plywood for a top. The top rotates on a 1/2" carriage bolt and to support the outer areas of the top I welded several casters on the frame. It's just like a giant lazy susan. I sit when I work and with this set up, I stay in the same place and just spin the table for access to my wilton, drill press, disc sander, buffer, and bench vise.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

I have a decent set up in my parents basement. I have a workbench about 5 feet long and 2.5 feet wide. I have the drill press coming off the back left side, the vise right in front of it, an old dremel jigsaw on the other side and my dremel and stuff on the back side of the bench. The old gringer I have is on an unused table saw. the set up has most of the tools within arms reach, but there is a wide open space to work on the knife.

I haven't seen my work benches in months. They must be there I haven't lost any equipment yet.
