I agree with you Darrel. If you ever had a drill bit catch in a piece of steel, they can be a life saver. Of smaller knives and folders, your foot turning on the machine is often that much wished for "3rd hand".
 
The best place I have found for it is the dc disk grinder that I have. When I am flat grinding a part to deburr or whatever I lay the part on it hold it then hit the switch
When Im done I hit the switch and wait untill it stops. The grinder is horizonal (btw) :]
Kits point is a good one .. Its easy to get really hurt bad with swinging parts. Take a clamp and put on the table incase the part catches. Then your fingers dont look like hamburger after there hit many times by swinging parts..
