I use wooden parallel clamps to hold brass pieces and such for grinding. I carved notches in the smaller end of the clamps to keep the brass and such from slipping around. They are easy use and keep fingers from heating up from the hot brass. Just be sure and use the smaller clamps, the larger ones get somewhat awkward.
