This time of year in New Hampshire, the flies seem to be rather aggressive. They just are so intent on getting inside the house, and inside my shop and buzz around the lights, and light on my hand while I'm doing something (usually critical). My dog snaps at them, causing more distraction, and before long I am ready to snap.Heck they'll even bite you sometimes.

I'm not an entomologist, but I suspect it has something to do with the weather change, or maybe the mature fruits and berries? I dunno, but I found a really cool way to get rid of all the flies in my shop within a short period on time, and get myself back to work, feeling less bothered, and much less anal.

Use a shop vac.

Trust me, it works. Just use the long wand and suck 'em up when they light somewhere. For whatever reason they aren't too imtimidated by the wand, and you can get right up on them.

Well, I know you expected something cool when you saw "Shop Tip" and opened this thread, but sometimes its the little things, ya know?

Yeah....once a year I get overrun by these little ladybug looking insects...not true ladybugs....I think they are called Asian beetles...hundreds of them.

The shopvac makes short work of them!!

After you vacume them up, put em in bucket and mash them up. They make a great quench for stainless:eek: :barf:

You can get these fly traps that at home supply places that are amazing to see in action. My nextdoor neighbor has one and it is gross. it just looks like a clear plactic cup with a yellow lid with some liquid in the bottom. she put in up and nothing happened for two days. Then in one day after that the whole cup was brimming with flies.

The knifemaker in me wanted to take them home and mix up a little casting resin and make some handle slabs. I've still got two lizards in my freezer that i have plans for.

Mash them up,like Pete says. Then spread the fly paste on crackers, topped with an olive, for visiting inlaws. I would like to see the lizards cast in resin project when done, seriously. Pretty cool idea! It makes me want to cast a snake handled kitchen knife and send to my mother in law. Hey, I think you are onto something good here! And THEN cast a knife handle with a .45 round in it,for my father in law(a good guy).Every time he uses the knife, he can think of his wife.

Hey IG...

Maybe I should switch to showering in the fall instead of the spring?

Hey Mark...

The flies-in-resin idea for a handle is good, but have you ever tried a petrified dog **** for a handle! Sweet!

Gouge.....My wife saw the lizard post and now wants me to cast a handle with a little Crab. Now I've gotta go to the beach and look for washed up crabs. Are you getting blown around today?

Peter I was watching the rain going sideways by my window just about 30 min ago. Lovely weather if your a duck.

When I was there today they had the tunnel traffic stopped because of high winds. Whitecaps were hitting the top of the bridge and on the other lane the wind had turned over a small car!

Katana, slice 'em in half one the ahh, fly.

Can't do that with my Katana's Ra. There would be a very real chance of splitting atoms and bringing about the end of the world as we now know it!:footinmou

What do you folks do when the wind REALLY blows? I assume you have been having a slight breeze there

:D
