I recently rearranged and organized my shop a bit, trying to be a bit more efficient and productive with the little time I do have.
Here are a few pics of my new grinding "room" and a look my grinding stand I just built. It weighs about 350lbs, and made from parts I dug out of a metal dumpster (I had permission :) ) Anybody care to guess what the stands upright tube is made from, it is two pieces welded together.
Winner gets a thumbs up  . The Motor just arrived, the VFD and all the wheels are on the way.

Leather bench, handle area, drill press and sanding area

My metal bandsaw, my first "grinder" a 4x36, and my current one a 2x48 Baldor

My GIB and the monster stand. I got the plans for the grinder of off Blindhoggs website, and had them laser cut.

Here's a look at the whole shop

looks to me like some honkin big pistons, could be wrong tho not very mechanicaly inclined....
nice shop BTW I've been thinking about trying to convert my cone loc grinder into a 2 x72 grinder.

Nice Ben! Seeing other shops is one of my favorite things here on the forums!........well, that and poking fun at Rick M.:D

Nice! Looking forward to pics of your grinder when it's done. Looks like Piston's from a D9 or D11 Cat. No need to bolt that stand down!

Patrice, you know those ARE the pics after Ben organized....:D;)

Looking good!

I said I organized, not that I cleaned.
You guys are close with the pistons but not quite...

Elevator shaft?

Ignore Patrice, He's one of those "OCD" types.

Was it a significant savings to have your grinder cut from plans vs buying the GIB from Polar Bear?

Those are Cylinder sleeves from a diesel. Jess

Got the motor all mounted up!!

Thanks to my Dad, we got the vfd mounted, wired, and rollin'! Right now I just have the small wheels, I am still waiting on the 3" and 2" contact wheels for the platen arm. Compared to the Baldor sreamin' demon I use now, the variable speed should be slick!!

How thick is the 1.5" square posts on your GIB? I have a GIB that I have been building and am trying to figure out going with tube or solid steel.

I believe they are .090" wall.

Ben
Only thing better than that grinder is your kick ass stand for it. You wont be sorry you went variable speed.
