I have just about finished the remodling. Here are some pics of what has kept me busy for the last three months.
  • 30 inch fan in wall
  • drill press
  • new Whisper Low Boy with exhaust
  • Digitally controlled heat treat oven
  • quench tank with submersed heater and digital therm.
  • vacum system for grinders and buffers
  • Claiborne press [sometime this month]
  • annealing pan, insulated
  • nine inch disc sander [with an R. Frink wheel]
It was tough being down so long but worth the effort for the new equipment and possibilities. Fred

Wow!

Nice setup, man! How is it heated for the winter?[/quot

I use a gas wall mount heater in winter. I am hooked into a gas well and use that to run the shop. The heater is visible in one of the pics.

Looks like you are all set up to go. Hope to see more knives from you put up for sale here.

I like your idea with hanging the belts, I was looking for something other than spiking a few nails in the wall!
nice setup.

Great shop!

Does that hot drink dispenser work for heating oil without modification? Got a bunch of used ones over here in Korea.

Loved the use of the footballs as stoppers. It would be nice for us newbies if you could label each picture as to what we are looking at...instead of the BIG orange thing.

Eric,
I am stoked about getting some blades made and turning out something other than welding fumes. This has been a major overhall with a lot of upgrades.

I hope you are getting out of town and putting a line in the water, Fred

It works great. There's a bucket heater submerged in the oil.
It heats the oil to 180degrees in 30 seconds or so. There is a probe type thermometer in the oil. When the probe hits 120, I shut the heater off and it will coast to 180 in 10 seconds. you have to submerge a cool bar of steel in the oil to bring the heat down, if you are quenching more than one blade. A 10inch blade will up the temp, of the oil to 217 degrees from 180. I am using Brownells Tough Quench. The down side was, we had to find something else for the coffee. The wife was not pleased!

birdog,

Are you coming to the Cambridge, Ohio show? I'm going, if I can get something made. Fred

Steve, The belt holders are Prince Albert plastic tobaco cans. A good friend gave up the habit and had some extras cans, I cut some 1/4 inch plywool circles to put in the bottoms. A surface for the screws to grip. The plastic would not hold by itself. Pop the lid back on and you are ready for the belts. Fred:D

That is a good suggestion and a point well taken. Makers tend to assume, people, know what some of the strange looking items, they have built, are. I will make it a point in the future to add captions. If you look on my website next Monday, I will have posted the text for this series of pics. Fred

It is helpfull, when someone new to this forum, post a name with there reply, it helps us to communcate. Fred

N.R.

The shaft on the buffer is standard 3/4" cold rolled steel stock; available at the hardware. I had the ends threaded at the machine shop along with the keyway for the stacked pulley.

I have three machines on the one large vacum. I rotate the two footballs between the three pickups, to designate which machine has the suction.

The footballs were post fire. Fred
