Shopping for Case XX (good news & frustration)

I just returned from a week-long biz trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. While there, I made a trek to the local Bass Pro mega shop, hoping to scope out some Case knives and maybe pick up a Peanut (my wife wants your head, jackknife, she says you're a bad influence!). They had a wonderful display of Case and other knives there and the guy I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. Alas, they had NONE of the Peanuts I wanted. The guy told me that demand is such that they can't keep Case knives in stock, which would seem to be very comforting news for lovers of slipjoints, Case knives and American-made products in general. So I left there feeling frustrated but at least in a good mood.

On the other hand, the next day, based on a search of the dealer locator link at Case's web site, I drove on my lunch hour to Tyler Equipment in Conway, supposedly a "platinum" Case dealer. I got there only to find a dusty counter-top Case display that was mostly empty. Based on the puzzled reaction of the dullard behind the counter when I asked, they likely hadn't sold a knife there in years.

Back home, to slake my Peanut thirst, I went ahead and ordered one sight-unseen online, a Harvest Orange bone Pocket Worn Handles, SS blades. I should have it this week. I'd greatly prefer to handle (fondle?) the knife before buying it. But I did at least get something from the ill-fated Bass Pro shop trip: I never would have imagined liking Harvest Orange, but seeing them in person really turned my head.

If it makes you feel any better, all but one of my Case knives have been ordered online -- without me handling them. They have all been excellent.

If you folks have Gander Mountain out there, check it out. They have the best case collection of any chain outdoor store I have seen.

Frustration set in on Saturday at the local gun & knife show. No custom slippies to look at, and only 3 Queen's in the whole place. That left Buck and Case. I have never been a fan of Tru-sharp, but there was this med. Stockman in Stag that caught my eye. The spey blade drew a drop of blood as I examined it. I purchased the v53087, and I noticed after I got home that the box is for another knife.

Does anyone know what the "88" stamped on the pen blade means? I think the tang stamp dates it after the year 2000.

I picked up a Case Peanut and med Stockman in Harvest Orange Pocket Worn Bone a few weeks back. Love them to bits
