I for one can tell you they are a PITA to make 
I dont know why they dont come with a full back spacer though
.
Making them by hand one at a time is obviously not how EKI would be doing
it but it could just be more time and materials than they want to use.
Could be that the machine they use or supplier just cant handle a spacer that size.
May be they just like them with the open ring set up.... I dont know ?
