Short blade, full size handle: opinions wanted

I am looking for a new Fiddleback for everyday carry, I have some simple criteria for the knife. The knife needs to have a blade length around 2 1/2 inches give or take, and a handle that is at least 4 inches long. The knife will mainly be used as a everyday utility knife, and will dabble in wood working and spoon carving. The knife will be carried in a pocket sheath I will be making myself. The two top contenders are the Carver or BCK, I would appreciate everyone's opinions on these two blades. This will be my only knife purchase of the year, and I need to make it count.

Thanks Phil

I would also suggest checking out the ED Karda.

I think the BC Karda would be more useful for everyday tasks than the Carver but both should fill that roles that you've outlined.

+1 on the ED Karda. just recently got one, and i immediately thought that it would make a great wood carver (and leather trimmer). but, with that said, that is the only small-blade fiddleback i have experience with.

have you seen this sticky?....

it has blade and handle lengths on all models. i know that won't give you usage opinions, but it's a most-excellent reference.

I'd agree that the Kardas are going to be a better all around knife than the Carver.

Carver and ED Karda:

The BC Karda has a little longer handle than the EDK.

I have both the BCKarda and the EDKarda the EDKarda seems to get a lot more pocket time!

I love the bushcraft karda! One of the most pleasant to hold Fiddleback's I have owned!

I'm the opposite - BCKarda gets all the use.

I hope the forge turns out a few more scandi synthetic handled bushcraft kardas. Those don't come up much and disappear quickly. I have owned all the kardas and if you aren't worried about size the bck rules the lot in my opinion.

Maybe some A2 3/32" scandi bcks with shade tree with black bolsters over black. Or Natural with black bolsters over black. Or any synthetic with white pinstripes. :D

ok Dirty, you got me thinking about the ED Karda i had. you got me itching to give 'er a test.

about the knife: i got this within the last couple weeks from Heesoo off the flea market (thanks buddy). it is an ED Karda with blackwood handles over nat canvas liners (with matching pins) and a white pinstripe.

so, i grabbed a stick to do a quick (pseudo) try stick.

this thing really made quick work of it. i knew it would be a good, little wood knife....and i wasn't disappointed. the grind is awesome on this. the pointy tip (and how the tang thins to it) is just perfect. and the handle?...great. like you, i want a full sized handle in my "small" knife.

quite honestly, i was actually thinking about moving this one on for the next one. like you, i was considering using this as a small-bladed EDC. i thought the blade was maybe too small, as i wondered if it would be long enough to cut a steak.

i'll tell ya what...i am now reconsidering. it was a pleasure. thanks for the thread!
