This is a Finnish woodcarving knife from Ragnar. The blade is a little over 2", which makes it good for woodcarving or modern utility cutting, but not skinning a deer or cutting bread.

But the handle is close to a full-size knife handle because our hands don't get any smaller when our cutting jobs do.

Sal has talked about this many times because the Military has a 5" handle for a less than 4" blade. I totally agree that this is a useful way of making knives.

But are there any small-blade Spydercos with a hand-sized handle? I love the Dragonfly, Cricket, etc. but their handles are not much bigger than the blades.

The Gunting definitely fits the small (3") blade / large handle criteria.

A MBC knife that actually does a great job in the utility role.

Folding Vagabond. The shape of it anyway... You'd need a smaller blade to be eurolegal.

I like the effect they get using a finger choil, as on the Navigator and the Meerkat. The "blade" is pretty proportional to the "handle", but since you grip part of the "blade", it skews the balance handle-ward.

I know its posted aleady..but that was /is a design feature in the Gunting specifically..
A large handle and a small blade..
it caused quite a stir when it came out because people couldn't adjust to that and kept asking for a larger blade..the handle would accomodate a larger blade..
Its an ergonomic handle with a smaller blade that allows for very precise cutting & control..
A usuable blade with a usable edge..sharp tip for picking and entering..
The ramp an be use too guide the tip for delicate cuts..

It's a common pocket knife with a larger handle..

be safe

I don't know if you would call it a small blade, but at 3" +/- the Lil' Temperance has a comparatively short blade for the handle size. Another great example of Spyderco's big, little knives!

The Gunting is definately a good big/small spyderco as mentioned above. It has a good, full-length handle and has a decent width to it, also. Very comfortable to grip.

The paramilitary, a newer model that is a smaller version of the Military, has a blade just over 3 inches but has a longer handle that will fit the largest of hands. It's not as long as the Military's handle but is by no means a small handle and It is quite comfy as well.
