Short EDC fixed blades?

Hey guy's! I'm in the market for a short (Ideally 4" at most for the blade, as that is the limit set at the college I go to) fixed blade knife to EDC. While I have a folding knife (A buck 110), there are many tasks I would like a fixed blade for, preferably one made from high carbon steel. Anyone got any suggestions? I generally prefer full tang knives with a clip point by the way.

Price range is a huge factor. I would check the exchange for custom makers that suit your style, or have one made for you to your specs. I just picked up a Busse Game Warden, it has a 3" blade. The Active Duty has I believe a 3.6" blade, which I also looked at.

Price range isn't too great of a worry, I would probably prefer something a bit pricier... just so I feel like I'm getting higher quality.

Thanks! Another question being, is 154cm a good steel for possibly heavier used blades? I see a couple of benchmade knives that are in this size range, but are made from 154cm (I have never actually used one made from this steel).

As Bloody said, check out the Knifemaker’s Section of the Exchange. Lots of really nice/useful fixed blades pop up there daily.

LT Wright would be good to check out.

CRK Nyala, Benchmade 375, BRKT Gunny 3V, Esse 3 are some of my favorites in varying price ranges.

Love my 3-4" fixed blades...
If you want to go with 4" - Bark River Fox River-LT is great...it's listed as 4.25", but BRKT will bring it down to 4" for you. Just put your request in the comment section of whatever dealer you use. (Mine - bought directly from a dealer, came in at just a hair over 4", with no such request made)
If you want 3" or just under: Dozier Modified Personal, BRKT Mini Fox River...LT Wright Patriot is a little smaller still, but a nice little knife.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Bradford Guardian3; and I have a fondness for the SwampRat Rodent3 and Rodent Solution (both of which are discontinued, but can be found with a little patience). *Almost forgot the CPK EDC - currently out of production, so a little hard to come by, but definitely worth the effort (and the $$)!
As mentioned by others, we've got some great makers here. I had a puukko made to my specs by Malanika, and it is simply outstanding. I've also got a couple from bacustomknives, but I think he's hanging out more in IG these days.

Edited to add pictures, and mention the Spyderco Mules - choose your steel, slap on a set of Halpern scales, and you're golden (haha)

Bradford Guardian 3 will thrill and amaze you. I'd recommend the 3D scales.

I've always thought the White River Caper was pretty cool. Get one from Whitty over at USA Made Blade.

If you prefer pricier, then head to the Knifemaker's market and get a custom piece. Maybe even have one done to your specs. That's fun.

I am going recommend contacting Jeff over at, J.A Baker Knives(He in on BF, has a website and a pretty active Instagram too), his S-Tac model is just about prefect in every way for IMO and he will make it in almost any materials you would like. Price starts at $180 and goes up based on options. Here is a pic of my two in 3V and M4 respectively. Blade length is 3 1/2" OAL is 7 5/8"
Shoot me a DM if you would like me to email more pics or more pieces from the collection!

Oh wow! I am overwhelmed with all of the options! The benchmade 375 looks to be excellent... DOES THAT REALLY COME IN D2? Benchmades D2 is AWESOME! My only complaint is the serrations, but those are on the back so they don't count. Thanks ScooterG for that suggestion, I think that will be my choice. On another note, for a slightly larger and cheaper blade... are the short Ka-Bar models any good? I just like Ka-Bar knives because my very first fixed blade was one, and the 1095 Cro-Van is excellent IMHO.

Ka-Bar’s are good, nothing wrong with them, but I think you can do better with price considerations.

It's honestly for the sake of good memories lol, But for an actually EDC, The benchmade ADAMAS honestly looks like a charm. I was unaware it comes in D2, that's really something nice.

Guess the 4" max was a loose boundary, lol. Very nice looking knife, though - I'm sure it will serve you well. I might have to snatch one of those myself. (I'll give you plenty of time to get yours, I'm not that much of a jerk ;))

I am going to say thay the Bradford Guardian 3 is probably perfect for what you are looking for. The quality is very good, and it is not that expensive. Still when it comes to an EDC fixed blade the Guardian 3 is beyond ideal.

However the nature of the grip on the Guardian means that despite its name the Guardian 3 sucks for self defense. Actually I think the best fixed blade is the Spyderco Street Beat. It is just too awsome a knife. It is a great option for utility and self defense. There are two versions of he Street Beat; Liteweight with FRN handles and the more expensive one with Micarta handles.

The Guardian 3 comes with a horizontal draw leather sheath. As far as sheaths go it is quite a good one. Sometimes it presses into my gut when I sit down. The street beat sheath I wear in waist band at about 3:00 position. It is super comfortable there and I don't even feel it. Comfort of carry is so often overlooked with fixed blades.

If you are truly cooler than the average guy then get a Brous Silent Soldier neck knife.
