hey, i want to know if there is a name for this type of knife i like. basically, they are very short and very fat folding or automatic knives. they kinda look like a fat thumb from a fat person. i've seen them referred to as "fat boy's", but i can't find much with google searches.

is there another way i can search for these aside from fat boy knives?

thanks in advance!

I don't know the name of that type of knife, but I know some models.
You can search the Kershaw One ton or Half ton, and a bunch of Zero Tolerance knife, they're not really long, and really fat blade, hope ya like it.

well if your into traditional patterns that would be either a sunfish or elephant's toe

I think AG Russell has called them SLB's -- stubby little blades. There have always been a few of them on the market, it's a handy design, kind of a penknife for the working class.

I think the SOG Blink would fit your description. It also shoots out super fast (open assist). The aluminum handle is also very hard to scratch.

just for your consideration, although a lot of these ones are not that thick:
sog bluto
al mar slb
kershaw baby boa
knifekits.com super squirt 2.0 (fun little project to put together a stubby automatic for yourself, need to order the spring at the same time)
benchmade 755, as mentioned above
kershaw chive - not thick but assisted open

can you tell we have similar tastes?

Check out Jericoh Blade Works

He is a custom knife maker who makes pretty much everything out of 1/4 inch 1095, even many of his 3 and 4 inch knives. Has some pretty awesome forced patinas he puts on them too.

If you are looking for a short fat knife, I am sure you'll find one you like there.

Thanks.
It used to be a Benchmade 520 SBK Presidio (Mel Pardue design Pre-production 763/1000 154cm); that someone ran through a grinder. Then I bought it, cut it in half & fixed it up a bit.
It's definitely short & fat.
It is a great knife to fiddle with, that's for sure.
Here it is next to a Large & Small Ritter Grip, just for a size comparison.
