Short fixed blade with a full handle

My meandering tastes have currently settled on small fixed blades (up to 3", say) with full handles. If I find the right one it may occasionally replace the Mini-Grip as my EDC. This is for small game and some whittling, campcraft, and general utility; all within the limits imposed by the short blade obviously, ie no batoning or splitting 6" logs. This one is for the fine work.

I own the Cold Steel Pendleton Mini Hunter and the Gerber Freeman Caping.

The Pendleton Mini is a great knife, sharp and controllable. The handle is on the short side - it fits three fingers of my hand. (I wear size Large gloves, for reference.)

I love the shape and ergonomics of the Freeman Caping, though the blade performs surprisingly poorly. The blade is shaving sharp and the handle is comfortable and provides plenty of control, but it is still a much clumsier whittler than the Pendleton Mini. I'm thinking the edge may be too thick, I'm going to try to reprofile it to thin it out and see how it behaves.

What do you all like in this category?

Here are some pics and links of what I'm talking about:

have you ever handled the larger CS Pendleton? i wear large sized gloves and that knife works great. blade- 3 3/8" handle- 4 3/4" and fits my whole hand. you already know the steel, and the blade shape is a little different and thicker, but as a whole the knife works.

*those Fallknivens look good too. :)

Stanley: The MMHW Farm & Ranch looks nice, but at 1/4" the blade's a little thicker than I'd want from a small knife.

WWells20: I have the full-size Pendleton Hunter too, love it! A very nice camping/hunting/all-around knife. But it's bigger than my current obsession. :p

sprokker, my full-size hunter came from Sports Authority. it is lazer etched as a "mini". i got it for 49.00. just wanting to know if yours is the same.

wwells20: I bought my Pendleton Hunter from Quick Knife about a year ago. It says "Cold Steel (R) Made in Japan" on one side and "L Pendleton Hunter" on the other.

Thanks for the suggestions folks!

i have the bark river mini canadian and like it a lot....because there's no grind line, it cuts like crazy......plus you can strop it on jeans in the field and keep it sharp.....convex edge...A2 steel...field tested by prof'l trappers in canada

I like this, but I'm a sucker for a Wharnie. Webb & Fisher custom. Blade's @ 2.5" of ATS34. Handle's linen micarta and the shape of it, along with the guard... my hand just locks into it.

I noticed this Dozier K12 at VintageKnives.com a few days ago. I'm not sure what your price range is, but it seems to meet your requirements.

I would suggest taking a closer look at the Fallkniven WM-1. I have one and all I can say is it's a serious knife for it's dimunuative size. I'm also in agreement with Nakano about checking out the puuko styles and tarsier's suggestion of the Dozier. All butt kickin' knives for sure.(Voice of experience speaking on these knives.)

I'm not familiar with the other knives mentioned but they all look like contenders too. Glad I'm not in your shoes having to find the perfect one for your needs. :D Too many good ones to choose from.
