Where can I find a 24 - 28" handle for a full size double bit head? I can find the "cruser" style handles, but they seem to be just a little too small. If I use a cruser handle, is there a way to safely fill in the head? I dont want to just cut off a long handle, I need a knob on the end.

House handle sells a 30" handle. I bet if you seated it far enough down on the shoulder, you might get 28".

I would open the slot a little bit by closing it on a vice and re sawing it about half the depth, then get a nice wedge wider than the handle but fits nicely inside the eye and get it nice and tight. I would be careful about spreading the handle to wide, i.e too loose a fit inside the eye before wedging, it may split the handle or it may not seat firmly on the shoulder.

Liam, That is a gem! Thank you! I have been wondering about how to widen a kerf, and your suggestion makes a lot of sense.

I could not remember where I saw that, thought it was in that excellent instructional film "an axe to grind" from youtube, but he just deepens it.
Just in case you haven't seen it.
