Today I took off from work early and drove up to Roads End in Kings Canyon, seen here:

I went up the Bubbs Creek trail, and views down canyon opened up:

I could also see up the canyon of the South Fork Kings:

When I got higher, there were two guys fishing here:

And this is what they pulled out of the whitewater:

Beautiful. Brings back a lot of good memories.

I went up a little higher on the Sphinx Creek trail, and could start to see things a little higher:

I'll be up above and behind those distant peaks next month:

I stopped for a snack at our traditional watering hole on Bubbs Creek (that log is about 4' diameter):

And on the way out I almost stepped on this little guy, and then he coiled up and rattled his anger at me:

What was your total distance and elevation gain? Nice pics as usual!

Total distance today was nine or ten miles, with only about 1500' vertical. The only problem was that I got a late start, and it was really hot and sweaty going up the switchbacks on the first part of the Bubbs Creek trail.

J,

I really enjoy your pics. In fact, I put your pics up at work as wall paper. My friends were very impressed. How much hike do you typically to find shots like this?

Btw, really enjoying the knife

God Bless

The amount of hiking varies a lot. This trip was nine or ten miles total. The pics I posted a few weeks ago in Giant Forest were on a trail that is very accessible (the loop we took was about five miles, but no point on it was more than two miles from the road). The pics that I posted four weeks ago from Timber Gap involved a total of about five miles (and a lot of vertical). And then a lot of my pictures have been taken on weeklong backpacking trips in the Sequoia/Kings Canyon high country. And I take a lot of pictures, you only see the ones I think are decent. Today I only took about 60 pictures, which was a light day for me. On other trips I might take a lot of pictures; on an eight day backpacking trip in Kings Canyon last year I took over 1100 pictures.

Beautiful

Glad you didn't have a bad run-in with that rattler, great pic of it too.

Beautiful. It has been far too long since I have spent any good time in that area. I really need to do so soon.
