After work I went for a walk to look around some, nice colors out, so I took my Buddy on a hike :)

I saw a turkey vulture scoping me out.

But he didn't stick around long...

Lots of wild grapes in this area. Lots of farms here, so I suppose the birds spread the seeds everywhere over time.

Saw a few dragonflies, and a Ladybug.

Lots of future tinder material for the fire starting class in October, and some good tinder now.

I tried to take some shots that capture the grind on this knife, but the darkly overcast day didn't help any. The grind on the 5/32 is just super.

And as I said in the FBOTS thread, I love the way this thing slices.

Yeah, I think I found it :)

Thank you Mist. I enjoy your posts. Glad to see the spectacular nature shots. I am a huge fan of 5/32 it fits mine hand like a glove. Nice grind on your hiking buddy

Your Buddy is sporting an awesome patina Mist. I really enjoy the composition of your photos and the detail close ups are awesome. Keep em coming !

Spectacular photos Brian. The detail on the dragonfly is amazing. I am glad that you are enjoying the Hiking Buddy. I hope that one is a keeper for you.

Great photos Mist! I love the colors and the shot with the grapes. Everything looks so green in the background. I am really enjoying my 5/32" fiddleback arete. I think it is a great thickness.

Thanks for the pictures and sharing your hike with us Mist.

Thanks Mac, glad you liked he post :)

Thank you, I'm glad you like them! I love 5/32, to me it's the perfect thickness for a knife blade up to about 5 inches long. Handles all I need to do on a normal basis.

I love your posts, man.

Thank you, yeah, I wanted this one heavy for all the time it will spend in a high humidity environment. Glad you like them man, I know I can get a bit heavy handed with the photos sometimes and have been trying to watch that :)

Thanks Phil! I think this is the one. Now if I can avoid many more unexpected expenses I may even get to keep this one :)

Thank you very much! Yeah, lots of greenery here once all the white went away :) I really need to try an Arete, that's one I haven't managed yet. Maybe soon though, and definitely in 5/32 :D

It's always great finding a keeper! Great photos too!

Just curious, Mist, with 5/32" being your stated preferred thickness for outdoor uses, are there any specific tasks for which you prefer thinner stock and how thin do you go? Do you skip 1/8 all together and head straight to 3/32 or is it all the way to 1/16? Again, just curious for I too love Andy's 5/32 which is only 5/32 right at the spine of the ricasso.

I've got ladies in all dimensions and love them all.

Hey Mist, this is OT, but what lens were you using to capture these shots? You've got great clarity!

Well...honestly, for the most part I skip all of those and start with 5/32 is my "favorite" minimal thickness. Not like I hate 1/8 or anything, I have had some I like. The thing is I use the knife I have on me the most, in food prep or in field craft. I am more comfortable with 5/32 in the kitchen than I am with 1/8 in the field.

Hey Mist,

Would you still lean towards your HB over a bushboot for EDC? I have a F2 and like the handle but never felt a bushboot.

Great summation and best reason I've heard yet for preferring one over the other.

It was the simplest, and straight to the point answer I could think of.

Me personally? Yes, it fits my hand well and very comfortably in long term use in whittling and carving with no hot spots at all. The contouring makes for a secure purchase in other grips and holds. My preferred environment is woods. My wife on the other hand, whose palms are narrower than mine, prefers the Bushboot for edc. But we also have different styles of knife use. In an urbanized environment, I just may prefer the Bushboot for the curve and position of the blade in a reverse over-hand grip.
